Dr. Blackburn is the Medical Director of Onslow Radiation Oncology and serves as a clinical professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at ECU. He has over 25 years of experience as a radiation oncologist and anesthesiologist/pain medicine specialist.
Dr. Blackburn received his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Doctors Hospital in Massillon, Ohio, and residency training in radiation medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the University of Kentucky. He also completed a residency in anesthesia at Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) General Hospital. Dr. Blackburn also possesses a Physician’s Executive Health Care MBA from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Board-certified in radiology (radiation oncology) and anesthesiology, Dr. Blackburn is licensed to practice in Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. In 2010, Davis Memorial Hospital, under the direction of Dr. Blackburn, was the recipient of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award. His clinical interests are the care of patient with cancers of the brain, head and neck, breast, lung, rectum and prostate, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy and practice management. He has also presented frequently on the topic of cancer and cancer therapies and is a member of American Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ASTRO), American College of Radiation Oncology, and other medical societies. He also likes to work with the families on the behavioral issue of the cancer diagnosis and palliative care issues.
